چکیده

In IEEE802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), frame collisions occur drastically when the number of wireless terminals connecting to the same Access Point (AP) increases. It causes the decrease of the total throughput of all terminals. To solve this issue, the authors have proposed a new media access control (MAC) method, Synchronized Phase MAC (SP-MAC), based on the synchronization phenomena of coupled oscillators. We have addressed the network environment in which only uplink flows from the wireless terminal to an AP exist. However, it is necessary to take into consideration of the real network environment in which uplink and downlink flows are generated simultaneously. If many bidirectional data flows exist in the WLAN, the AP receives many frames from both uplink and downlink by collision avoidance of SP-MAC. As a result, the total throughput decreases by buffer overflow in the AP. In this paper, we propose a priority control method based on SP-MAC for avoiding the buffer overflow in the AP under the bidirectional environment. Also, we show that the proposed method has an effect for improving buffer overflow in the AP and total throughput by the simulation. key words: wireless LAN, media access control, synchronization phenomena of coupled oscillators, Kuramoto-model, priority

Characterization of Priority Control based on Media Access Control Method SP-MAC over WLAN

In wireless local area networks (WLAN) based on IEEE 802.11, when the number of wireless terminals connecting to the same access point (AP) increases, data frame collisions cause the decreasing of total throughput for all wireless terminals. To address this problem, we have proposed a new media access control (MAC) method, Synchronized Phase MAC (SP-MAC), based on the synchronization phenomena ...

A New Media Access Control Protocol with Quality of Service and Fairness Guarantee in Ethernet-based Passive Optical Networks

We propose a new Ethernet-based Passive Optical Network (EPON) media access control (MAC) protocol that supports quality of service (QoS) and guarantees fairness among users. For QoS support the proposed MAC protocol minimizes packet delays and delay variations for the higher priority traffic, while increases throughput efficiency for the best effort traffic by appropriate reclassification of i...

Per-Flow Fair Media Access Control in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks

IEEE 802.11 [1] is the most widely used protocol in the WANETs. The basic media access control mechanism of IEEE 802.11 is the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) with Carrier Sensing Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA). The DCF includes a backoff algorithm called Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB). The BEB prefers the last successful node because the Contention Window (CW) size of ...

A QoS-enabled MAC architecture for prioritized service in IEEE 802.11 WLANs

–In this paper we propose a novel media access control (MAC) architecture to support differentiated service in IEEE 802.11 WLAN. By employing the MAC-core as base and different adaptors as add-ons in this architecture, the resulting MAC can provide prioritized services with different delays and throughputs. Our simulation studies show that the resulting MAC protocols based on this architecture ...

Improved priority access, bandwidth allocation and traffic scheduling for DOCSIS cable networks

The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) is intended to support IP flows over HFC (Hybrid Fiber/Coax) networks with significantly higher data rates than analog modems and Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) links for high quality audio, video and interactive services. To support quality-of-service (QoS) for such applications, it is important for HFC networks to provid...
